Shohei Ohtani's Topps Chrome Gold Logoman Autograph Card Sells for a Record-Breaking $3 Million
The two-way baseball star Shohei Ohtani continues to captivate fans and collectors alike with his extraordinary talent and unique collectibles. His latest achievement in the collectibles market is the sale of his Topps Chrome Gold Logoman Autograph Card, which fetched an astonishing $3 million at auction, shattering previous records for Ohtani's cards.
This one-of-a-kind card, featuring Ohtani's signature and a gold logo patch, holds immense significance. The patch was worn by Ohtani during a memorable game in the 2024 season, where he celebrated his National League MVP Award. The card was part of a special program initiated by Topps and MLB to honor the sport's top award winners.
The card's journey began when Pete Anderson and his twin sons, Colton and Henry, discovered it during a box break in Minneapolis. They had purchased the right to own any Dodgers cards from a select number of 2025 Topps Chrome packs. When the Ohtani Logoman card emerged, they were thrilled and decided to auction it on Fanatics.
The bidding frenzy commenced immediately, surpassing a million dollars within 24 hours. The Gold Logoman card ultimately set a new record for Ohtani's cards, surpassing his previous record held by the 2024 Topps Black Logoman card. This card featured a patch from Ohtani's game-worn pants, marking his 50th home run of the 2024 season.
Not only did the Gold Logoman card break Ohtani's record, but it also became the highest-selling Dodgers card, surpassing last year's Paul Skenes 1-of-1 Rookie Debut Patch Autograph Card. In fact, it became the most expensive modern card since Mike Trout's signed 2009 Bowman Chrome Prospects Superfractor card sold for $3.93 million in 2020.
Despite its staggering price, Ohtani's card fell just short of surpassing the legendary Babe Ruth's 1914 Baltimore News rookie card, which remains the highest-selling baseball card overall at $4.03 million.
Ohtani's success in the trading card market is not limited to his Gold Logoman card. His other collectibles have also attracted significant attention. For instance, Knicks star Karl Anthony-Towns auctioned a 1-of-1 signed card of World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto for $72,000. However, Ohtani's cards are setting new benchmarks, as evidenced by the seven-figure sums for his top-tier cards.
The identity of the buyer of the Gold Logoman card remains undisclosed, but the Anderson family has big plans for their windfall. They intend to continue collecting and even set aside some funds for their future college tuitions, as they ride the wave of their newfound success in the world of sports memorabilia.
