The fallout from Silvey's arrest has also reached the education system and the book industry. The WA government has requested that Silvey's books be removed from the curriculum, and many bookstores have pulled his work from their shelves.
Even the theatre adaptation of Runt, scheduled for the Belvoir St Theatre stage in New South Wales, has paused promotion. A spokesperson for Belvoir St Theatre stated, "We are taking this matter seriously and have indefinitely paused work on the promotion and sales of the production while the charges are being dealt with by the police and the court."
Silvey, who is yet to enter a plea, was granted bail with strict conditions, including limited internet access and no unsupervised access to minors. He remains in custody as he did not meet the surety bail condition.
