Myles Kennedy Shares His Experience of Singing 'Crazy Train' in Front of Ozzy Osbourne: A Mix of Excitement and Nerves!
On January 17, 2026, in an engaging chat with JD Lewis on iHeartRadio Canada, Myles Kennedy, renowned as the frontman for ALTER BRIDGE and Slash's solo project, SLASH FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS, opened up about his unforgettable moments with the iconic heavy metal legend, Ozzy Osbourne. When asked about his impressions of Ozzy, he expressed, "Without a doubt, [Ozzy] had a significant impact on me. The very first time I listened to 'Diary Of A Madman', it was like a revelation—'What is this? It's incredible!'"
Myles reminisced about touring alongside Ozzy, recalling that it was around 15 years ago when they hit the road together while supporting one of Ozzy’s albums during an arena tour. He shared how exhilarating it was to witness Ozzy perform every night, noting, "What I took away from that experience was watching his extraordinary ability to connect with the audience. The love and admiration from the crowd were palpable, and you could see how much Ozzy thrived off that energy. Many artists will tell you that this connection is why they pursue their craft; they crave that interaction. Watching him perform every night was nothing short of magical and deeply inspiring to me. His superpower lies not only in his unique melodic style but in that undeniable charm that draws people to him."
Myles then reflected on a particularly memorable moment when he performed the classic Ozzy track "Crazy Train" at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards held in Glasgow. This performance served as a tribute to Ozzy, who was honored with the Global Icon Award during the ceremony.
He recalled, "I distinctly remember the rehearsals; despite knowing the song inside out and having listened to it countless times, I was determined to practice repeatedly, especially with Ozzy in the audience. While some artists might run through a cover a couple of times, I thought, 'This is Ozzy Osbourne; I want to do it justice.' So, for two weeks straight, I practiced it over and over. It was such a blast, but honestly, it was also pretty intimidating knowing he would be there watching us."
Myles Kennedy, widely recognized for his powerful vocals with ALTER BRIDGE and his collaboration with THE CONSPIRATORS, has also ventured into solo work, releasing three albums: "Year Of The Tiger" in 2018, "The Ides Of March" in 2021, and his latest, "The Art Of Letting Go," in 2024.
As one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music, Myles stands out not just as a singer, but also as an accomplished guitarist and songwriter. His collaborative spirit shines through in his work with various artists, including SEVENDUST, GOV'T MULE, DISTURBED, HALESTORM, LAMB OF GOD's Mark Morton, and the legendary Darryl "DMC" McDaniels.
Residing in Spokane, Washington, Myles also brings a wealth of experience as a teacher and session guitarist.
In an exciting development for fans, ALTER BRIDGE's self-titled eighth studio album was released on January 9 through Napalm Records.
