India Cuts Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices: December 2023 Update | LPG Price Trends (2026)

India has recently taken a significant step by reducing the prices of commercial LPG cylinders for December, a move driven largely by declining import costs. This decision comes from India’s state-run oil marketing companies, with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) confirming the price cuts. And here’s where it gets interesting—this is the third month in a row that prices have been falling, a trend closely tied to the declining contract prices set by Saudi Aramco, the major Middle Eastern oil exporter.

For example, a 19-kilogram commercial LPG cylinder now costs approximately 1,580.50 Indian rupees (around $17.60) in Delhi, and in Mumbai, it has dropped to Rs1,531.50. That’s a reduction of Rs10 in Delhi and Rs10.50 in Mumbai compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, in Kolkata and Chennai, prices stand at Rs1,684 and Rs1,739.50 respectively — both down by Rs10 and Rs10.50 from last month.

On the other hand, prices for residential LPG cylinders—used primarily for household cooking—have remained steady since April. They are priced at Rs853 in Delhi, Rs852.50 in Mumbai, Rs879 in Kolkata, and Rs868.50 in Chennai. This stability contrasts with the commercial cylinders, which are mainly used in food service establishments like restaurants, canteens, hotels, and institutions such as hospitals, schools, and offices.

The recent decrease in commercial LPG prices was prompted by a fall in November’s contract prices set by Saudi Aramco, which pegged propane at $475 per ton and butane at $460 per ton—both figures falling below what markets had anticipated. However, this downward trend may not continue indefinitely. Saudi Aramco has recently increased its December contract prices for propane and butane to $495 and $485 per ton respectively. This adjustment suggests that commercial LPG prices in India could potentially increase again soon.

So, the big question remains—are these price drops sustainable, or are we on the brink of another upward swing? And what might this mean for industries and households across India? Share your thoughts—are you seeing these changes impact your daily life or business plans?
